Raspberry Crazy Ants

I live in El Paso, Tx and have to ask anyone with knowledge about these ants - are these ants tiny and red, and follow the leader pattern over walls etc? If so, then El Paso has them. I saw them all over every plant I had in the back yard, specifically my vegetable garden, destroying my squash plant. I blame the white moth for eating up my purple cabbage, but when I was trying to harvest my squash, of which I found only one, there were these tiny red ants everywhere. I have used diatamaceous earth from the local pool supply company and was told by an employee of Truly Nolan that this would work especially for scorpions. And it seemed to work. The best thing about it is that it doesn't harm animals or birds, etc. just the tiny bugs, like gnats and such. I was told I could also use it in the vegetable garden, and prep it for next year.
